Who This Group Is For?
This group is designed for teens (ages 13-18) who are experiencing symptoms of OCD and who are either already in treatment or considering treatment. It’s a peer-support space where teens can connect with others facing similar challenges in a safe, understanding environment.
What to expect:
Each meeting is structured to promote connection, learning, and growth. While every session may look a little different, typical group elements include:
Check-In: Each participant shares briefly how they’ve been since the last meeting (challenges, wins, questions).
- Psychoeducation & Skill Focus: A clinician or OCD specialist leads a short teaching or discussion around topics such as managing intrusive thoughts, resisting compulsions, exposure and response prevention (ERP) strategies, anxiety tolerance skills, or how OCD shows up in teenage life.
- Peer Discussion / Sharing: Teens are encouraged (but not required) to talk about what they’re facing, ask questions, or share strategies that are working. Facilitators help guide discussion to keep it respectful and productive.
- Goal-Setting: Toward the end, members may set a small, realistic goal to work on before the next meeting (e.g. doing a small exposure, resisting a ritual, trying a coping skill).
- Social / Wrap-Up Time: A few minutes for casual conversation, connection, or reflection.
Confidentiality Commitment
To foster a supportive environment, all participants agree to maintain confidentiality—i.e., not share what is said in group outside the meeting. Respect for each person’s experience is expected: no judgment, minimizing, or “fixing” others.
If a teen discloses imminent risk to self or others, facilitators will follow safety protocols (e.g. contacting guardians, crisis resources) in accordance with clinic policy.
Participation and Goal Setting
Open Enrollment: Teens may join the group at any time—there is no fixed start date or closed cohort.
Flexible Attendance: You are welcome to attend as many or as few meetings as you wish, depending on your schedule or needs.
Screening: Before attending, a brief phone or in-person screening is required to confirm that the teen is appropriate for the group (e.g. diagnosis, readiness, confidentiality).
Expectations: While participation is encouraged, you don’t have to talk every time. Setting and working toward small goals is encouraged but voluntary.
