Tics & Tourette Syndrome / Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)

What Are Tics and Tourette Syndrome?

Tics are sudden, rapid, and recurrent movements or vocalizations that can feel difficult—or even impossible—to control. These behaviors are not intentional and often occur alongside a strong internal urge or buildup of tension.

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neurodevelopmental condition involving:

- Multiple motor tics (movement-based), and
- At least one vocal tic (sound-based)

lasting for over one year.

Tics commonly wax and wane, meaning they increase and decrease over time, and are often more noticeable during stress, fatigue, or heightened emotional states.
